The Beauty Shop is a small cafe in the Cooper/Young area, right near the corner of Cooper Street and Young Avenue. It's across Cooper Street from Cafe Ole just north of First Congregational Church. I went there this past Monday for lunch and it was fantastic!
It doesn't have its own parking but I got lucky and got a spot on the street nearby and there is parking just across the street behind Cafe Ole.
It was already on my list but someone sent me a link to a video where a food reviewer from Israel went there when he was in Memphis and after watching the video I made it a point to go there. Here is a link to the video.
I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Fish Sandwich and the Oy Ve Fries (I ordered the fries based on the recommendation from the video). Both were great but the fries were out of this world!
The service was also fantastic. I can't recommend them enough.
My total was about $35 including tip. I think the total before tip was right at $30. For everything I got that was very reasonable.
I will definitely be back! In fact, I'm thinking about going there for lunch again today.
Other trips this past week or so. I put prices if I remembered them.
Marshall's Steakhouse, Holly Springs - Filet, sausage and cheese plate $65
Avellino's, Southaven - Boneless wings and jalapeƱo poppers $9 on Saturday BOGO special
The Happy Mexican on Winchester, Memphis - Barbecue nachos $12 or $13 IIRC
Cinco de Mayo, Olive Branch - Chicken, spinach, cheese sauce (can't remember what it's called)
Maria's Cantina, Southaven - Chicken chimichanga, frozen peach margarita
My Favorite Place, Cordova - Chicken chimichanga
Lost Pizza, Memphis - Tamales, queso (no option for "fully loaded" tamales like Southaven)
Milano's Pizza, Southaven - daily two slice special only $8
Moe's Southwestern Grill, Olive Branch - Quesadilla about $12
I don't usually review chain places but wanted to show the food. I hadn't been to a Moe's in a number of years. The food is still pretty good and prices are a little cheaper than similar places like Salsarita's.
