Wilson Cafe, Wilson, AR

Wilson Cafe

Facebook Page

I've posted about Wilson several times so I'll keep it short but they are a restaurant that deserves their own page every time I go there. They are a small cafe in Wilson Arkansas on North Jefferson Street.

I went there Saturday almost two weeks ago for dinner. I ordered the daily special which was a petite filet with a side of scallops over mashed potatoes. I also ordered a Caesar salad and the daily deviled egg special which was chicken and avocado deviled eggs. I also ordered a piece of cheesecake which is unusual for me. As always, it was fantastic. They were really busy when we got there and service was a little slow but overall it was great.

My bill was right at $100 for everything including a glass of wine. I can't say enough about them except, it's worth the drive.

Desoto Snow and Creamery, Southaven, MS

Desoto Snow and Creamery

MAP

Desoto Snow and Creamery is an ice cream and "sno-ball" shop in Southaven on Getwell Road just north of Central Parkway in the shop where the new Grisanti's is. I went there a couple of days ago for dessert after lunch. I got the medium which is three scoops of ice cream with Cookies an Cream and Chocolate Mint. The Cookies and Cream was pretty good but the Mint was great.

They also have sno balls which the guy said was a shaved ice dessert which isn't didn't sound exactly like what I've had other places but it sounded good. I'll try one of those some other time.

Prices are fairly reasonable. My total with a canned drink was about $7. It's fairly small with only a few tables inside. It's definitely a good choice for ice cream. I will be back.

Parish Grocery, Memphis, TN

Parish Grocery

Parish Facebook

Parish Grocery is a small cafe on Cooper Street just north of Young Avenue in the building where Elwood's Shells used to be. It's a New Orleans inspired restaurant and I think the owners are from there. I went there a couple of days ago for lunch and it was fantastic.

I ordered a fish dinner which was two huge pieces of fish, two side items, and a roll. For the side items I got slaw and macaroni and cheese and the mac and cheese was so good I got another order to take home. The prices are reasonable for what you get. My total before tip including two cans of Diet Coke and tax was about $21 (not including the side order of mac and cheese I took home).

Two things worth mentioning, there are nowhere near as expensive as Elwood's Shell's was and there is limited parking. I mention the parking thing just because it's a Cooper/Young issue. They have their own parking lot but it only has two parking spaces and there is limited parking on the street.

I highly recommend them and I will definitely be back soon.

Cafe Ole, Batesville, MS

Cafe Ole, Batesville

MAP

Cafe Ole is a Mexican restaurant in Batesville on Highway 6 just east of Highway 51. It is not related to the Cafe Ole in Memphis. I went there Sunday for lunch while I was in the area. It was really good. I ordered the special chimichanga which is one beef, one shrimp, and one chicken chimichanga. It doesn't come with rice and beans so I ordered a side order but it turned out to be more than I could eat.

Considering everything I got the price wasn't too bad. It was around $28 but that included the side item, a drink, and a side of queso.

I definitely will go back when I'm in the area and I recommend you try it. It's a great choice.

Ramon's, Clarksdale, MS

Ramon's

MAP

Ramon's is a small restaurant in Clarksdale on Oakhurst Avenue at the corner of Cheyenne Street. I went there about a year ago for lunch when I was in Clarksdale but didn't know they were only open at night. I made it back yesterday and was really impressed. I thought they were a steak house for some reason but they are an Italian and seafood restaurant.

I ordered the spaghetti and veal and it was very good. It wasn't exactly the same as veal parmigiana but very similar. It came with a side salad and the dressing was very good also.

The total including two canned drinks and tax was only about $13 so it was very reasonably priced. I will definitely be back when I in the area.

Wilson Cafe, Wilson, AR

Wilson Cafe

MAP

I've posted about Wilson Cafe a couple of times and it is one that I will always give a separate page to each time I go there. It is at the corner of Jefferson Street and Main Street in Wilson. I was there yesterday for dinner. I ordered the daily special which was baked scallops in a cream sauce over sauteed vegetables and an order of the daily deviled eggs, smoked sausage with Gouda cheese.

Everything was fantastic, as always. It's hard to go wrong here. Everything I've had has been great. I was also told they are opening a hotel with an upscale restaurant soon.

The total with a glass of wine and tax was right at $60 before tip. They are not cheap but their food is worth every penny!

Bud's Snack Bar, Tunica, MS

Bud's Snack Bar

MAP

Bud's Snack Bar is a small burger and wings shop in Tunica on Flagg Avenue which is just west of Highway 61 and south of Mhoon Landing Parkway. I was in the city of Tunica yesterday and stopped by for lunch. It was very good. I ordered a double cheeseburger and fries and it was more than I could eat.

The total including two canned drinks and tax was about $13 and it was definitely a great choice. The food came out very quickly and everyone was very friendly.

Erling Jensen, Memphis, TN

Erling Jensen

MAP

Erling Jensen's is a fine dining restaurant on Yates Road at the corner of Murray Road south of Poplar Avenue. I've posted about it before but it's one of the places that deserves its own review every time I go there. You don't always have to have a reservation but I recommend you at least call before you go in case they are busy. Just as an advisory, it is a fine dining establishment which is to say it's not cheap but it's worth every penny if you like the occasional fine meal.

I went there this past Monday night and as always, it was fabulous. I ordered a three cheese appetizer plate, a baby spinach salad and the special of the day which was baked halibut. I wish I was more of a connoisseur and could give better descriptions of food, but needless to say, everything was great.

The total including an after dinner cup of coffee and tax was just over $103 before tip. It's not somewhere I can go every week but I do like going there every now and then.

I can't say enough about this place. It's wonderful.

West Street Diner, Germantown, TN

West Street Diner

MAP

West Street Diner is exactly that, a diner on West Street in Germantown just south of Poplar Avenue. I've been there a number of times but had not been recently. I was up early Sunday morning and went there for breakfast before church.

As many of you may already know from my previous posts, I'm not really a big fan of traditional breakfast foods, so I ordered a club sandwich and a salad both of which were really good. The prices are pretty reasonable. Before tip, the total including a drink and tax was around $12.00.

They open pretty early and I'm going to try to get back over there soon. Everything I've had there has been pretty good.

I also had a nice conversation with the owner about cars. He's a car guy too.
