Jerusalem Market and Restaurant, Memphis, TN

Jerusalem Market and Restaurant

MAP

Jerusalem Restaurant is a market and small restaurant on Summer Avenue in the shopping center that's just east of Avon Road, next to Charlie's Meat Market or behind the Pancake Shop in the spot where the Edo Japanese Restaurant used to be. I went there this past Saturday with a friend on his recommendation and it was fantastic!

I got a chicken Shawarma peta sandwich and my friend ordered a hummus appetizer which came with peta bread and olives and pickles for us to split. They were fantastic. I also ordered a side order of vegetables on his recommendation to put on the sandwich which were great also. I can't say enough about this place. I hadn't eaten since the night before or the sandwich would have been enough for two meals.

Everything was seasoned perfectly. My friend said that everything is made there, including the bread. I decided to get water instead of a soft drink and they brought out bottled water. The prices were really good too. I don't know how much the hummus was because my friend paid for that but my sandwich, two bottles of water, and the side order of vegetables was only about $8.00. I wasn't really sure if they charged for the water or not.

I highly recommend this place. I will be back soon, possibly in the next couple of days on my next days off.

Deli on the Square, Memphis, TN

Deli on the Square

MAP

Deli on the Square is a small, cozy deli on Lasalle Place which is basically at the corner Madison Avenue and Cooper Street but behind Local on the Square and some of the other businesses along Madison. I went there Monday afternoon for lunch and I was very pleasantly surprised.

I heard about it and when I originally looked it up on the internet it appeared to just be a chain deli but it's not. I believe it used to be Bogey's but they changed names. It's now a hip little joint right in the heart of Overton Square.

I ordered a Reuben Sandwich and it was very good. I ordered a side of pasta salad and drink and all together is was a little over $13 which isn't bad considering their location. The staff were very friendly and the food came out pretty quickly.

One thing worth mentioning is they have their own parking. Some places in Overton Square don't so you have to pay to park or find parking and walk a block or two to whichever restaurant you're going to.

I will definitely be back to try some of their other items.

Tao Asian Cuisine, Collierville, TN

Tao Asian

MAP

Tao Asian Cuisine is a somewhat upscale Asian restaurant in Collierville on Poplar Avenue just west of New Byhalia Road on the north side behind the Walgreens and Taco Bell. I went there this past Saturday for lunch to meet a group of friends I hadn't seen in a while. I had been there before when it was owned by a different family but had not been since it the new owners have been running it.

The food was great. The dinner menu is pricey but not overpriced but the lunch menu is less expensive. I got a combo with sweet and sour chicken and teriyaki chicken and both items were really good. All the food was cooked just right and it was some of the best Chinese food I've had.

The total before tip was about $13.00 including a drink and tax so it's very reasonably priced and it was plenty of food as you can see. I definitely recommend it!

Donald's Donuts, Southaven, MS

Donald's Donuts

MAP

Donald's Donuts is, of course, a donut shop in Southaven on Goodman Road in the strip center that on the northeast corner of Swinnea Road. I have seen it for a long time but just hadn't been there because there were other donuts shops I usually go to. One of the places hasn't been very good since they changed owners so I decided to give Donald's a try yesterday morning.

I got a jalapeno kolache, a chocolate Bavarian éclair, and a bottle of chocolate milk. The éclair was very good. The kolache was good but not great. No complaints though! My total was around $7 if I remember correctly so the prices aren't. I am going to go back and try them again soon. There were several other things available that looked really good.

My Favorite Place, Cordova, TN

My Favorite Place

MAP

My Favorite Place (yep, that's the name of it!) is a Mexican restaurant in Corodva on Germantown Parkway about 2 blocks north of Trinity Road on the east side. You have to turn Willow Tree Lane to get to it if you're travelling north on Germantown Road.

I used to go there about once a week when I worked nearby but had not been in a couple of years. They were always good and that hasn't changed! Today I ordered the Pollo con Chorizo which is chicken and Mexican sausage. I had not had this particular dish here and it was great.

The total including an order of queso, drink, and tax was right at $20 which is about average for what all I got. I definitely recommend going there if you're in the area. The only reason I don't eat there regularly any more is because I don't work in the area.
