El Paraiso, Hernando, MS

El Paraiso is a new Mexican restaurant in Hernando. They are located on McIngvale Road in the shopping center that is behind Taco Bell. I don't know exactly how long they have been there. I went there tonight for dinner and it was really good. Apparently they don't have a website yet.

I ordered the "make your own combo" and got chicken quesadilla, chicken enchilada, and a beef taco. Everything was really good and the total before tip was only $17 including a drink, cheese dip, a drink, and tax.

The service was really really good and everyone was really friendly. They weren't very busy but I assume it was because it was Monday and since they are new (I think they are, anyway) maybe many people don't know about them yet.

If you're in the area you should definitely give them a try!

Vanelli's Bistro, Tupelo, MS

Vanelli's is a pizza bistro in downtown Tupelo on Main Street west of Front Street. I was in Tupelo on 5/13 for a training class and before heading back home I stopped for dinner on recommendation of a friend. The pizza was great and priced about the same as most other privately owned pizza places.

I got a 12 inch house special which is basically a supreme. I wasn't all that hungry so I only ate a couple of slices and took the rest home for lunch the next day.

The total was around $32 with a drink and tax. I will definitely go back next time I'm there.

Don Julio is a Mexican restaurant in Tupelo on Kings Crossing west of Highway 45 in the shopping center.

I was in Tupelo last Friday, 5/13 (yep, Friday the 13th) for a training class. I went there for lunch and it was pretty good. The prices were about average. The prices were pretty good. My total before tip was only about $16.

To be honest, the service was a little slow. I got there before the lunch rush and they weren't busy and there were several servers however overall the experience was good.

I will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Los Cobos, Bartlett, TN

Los Cobos is a Mexican restaurant in Bartlett on Stage Road at Kirby Whitten right next to the CVS. I went there Thursday for dinner based on the suggestion from a friend.

The food was really good and the service was great. I don't remember the exact total but it was comparable to most other full service Mexican places. I definitely recommend it.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was more food than it looks like in the picture. I almost couldn't eat it all.

As a side note, if you go around 5:00 PM on Thursday nights there usually an informal car show in the adjacent parking lot. I didn't get there early enough to see any of the cars as they were all leaving about the time we got done but I've been there before.

 

Staks, Southaven, MS

Staks is a local chain pancake and breakfast shop with a new location in Southaven. I've posted about them before and don't usually give a separate post but since this is a new location I thought I would. The Southaven location is in the new Silo Square shops on May Boulevard just east of Getwell.

I went there a couple of weeks ago. The food was pretty good but they are kind of pricey. I ordered a small stack of pancakes, eggs, and sausage and the total was almost $21.00.

As I said the food is pretty good but I'd rather go to any number of other places for the price. I would go back if a group wanted to go there but I won't go on my own. That said, though, the food was good so give it try!
