Happy Ice Cream, Olive Branch, MS

Happy Ice Cream

MAP

Happy Ice Cream is an ice cream shop on Church Road just east of Pleasant Hill Road in the small strip mall next to the gas station. I went there last Friday after dinner for a treat.

It was pretty good. Not great but pretty good and reasonably inexpensive. It was $7 for a double scoop which is about a dollar or two cheaper than some other places and the service was very good.

I will definitely go back again.

Wray's Fin and Feathers, Olive Branch, MS

Fin and Feathers

MAP

Wray's Fin and Feathers is a buffet on Depot Street in Old Downtown Olive Branch between Pigeon Roost Road and Old Highway 78 (178). I went there tonight for dinner for the first time based on a friend's suggestion. It was pretty darn good and reasonably priced for a buffet. My total was just under $22 including a drink and tax.

They have a pretty good selection but not too much. I know some people do but I don't like buffets with 30 or 40 choices. It just feels like you miss out because you can't try everything.

Tonight I got catfish, a small piece of Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, and macaroni and cheese. It was all pretty good and a good deal for the price. Plus they have diet Doctor Pepper which is one of favorite diet drinks.

I will definitely be back!

Hometown Grill, West Memphis, AR

Hometown Grill

MAP

Hometown Grill is a small cafe on North Missouri Street in West Memphis at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue. I was in West Memphis last week for lunch and stopped there.

It is a small cafe with a limited menu but the food was good. I got a cheeseburger and fries. They have two different size burgers and I think I got the smaller one but it was plenty of food. The total was just over $20 but that included a drink and a tip.

I will definitely go back!

Honorable mention:

I didn't really want to give this its own page but thought it was worth posting. I was in the hospital last week and a friend of mine who knows I like sushi brought me dinner one night. It's sushi from Kroger in Olive Branch, MS. He had mentioned before that he and his wife order from there from time to time. It was really good. This was a crunchy California roll and I don't remember the other one. I don't know how much it was.

I will be going there to get sushi sometimes. He said they are much cheaper than a restaurants and it really was very good!

Ray's World Famous Barbcue, West Memphis, AR

Ray's BBQ

MAP

Ray's is a small drive through barbecue restaurant on North Missouri Street in West Memphis just south of I-40. I was in West Memphis last week for lunch but had heard of this place so I got an order to go. I didn't eat it the food until later that night but I tasted it while it was still fresh and hot.

Their food is pretty good, especially the beans. The price was really good, only $8 for what you see in the picture and a drink. That's their daily special. They were also very friendly!

I will definitely make it a point to go back. They normally have indoor seating but right now they only have a couple of outdoor benches where you can eat so it's mostly a to go restaurant.

El Molino, Horn Lake, MS

El Molino

MAP

El Molino is a Mexican restaurant on Goodman Road just west of Hurt Road. I've been there in several times but not in several years.I went there last week for dinner.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was huge! It was enough for three meals. I took most of it home and ate from it two times.

I don't remember the exact total but it was about average. With a cheese dip and drink it was $24 or $25. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

City Silo, Memphis, TN

City Silo

MAP

City Silo is a small cafe on Sanderlin Avenue just east of Mendenhall Road near the Doubletree Inn. I went there last Wednesday while running an errand in the area.

It isn't what I thought it was. For some reason I thought it was a high end full service restaurant but it's basically a sandwich shop. I wasn't disappointed, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

I ordered the "Memphis Chick" which is listed on the menu "farm raised chicken, sharp cheddar, arugula, pico de gallo, cashew ranch, Charlie’s Select Rendezvous barbecue sauce on toasted, freshly baked bread" along with a side item, and I chose salad which had a vinaigrette dressing of some sort.

All of it was very good and not too expensive. My total was $13 with no drink (I got water). I will definitely go back.

Other trips around the same time:

Avellino's, Southaven, MS - Boneless wings, jalapeƱo poppers

Caminos de Michoacan - I can't recall the name but it's chicken with ham and cheese sauce
