Rafferty's, Cordova, TN

Rafferty's

MAP

Rafferty's is a regional chain, similar to O'Charley's or Applebee's, but in my opinion, has better food. This past Friday, I at dinner at the Cordova location with a friend on the way to a gig. They are located on Germantown Parkway, just south of Trinity Road, basically in the same parking lot at the Walmart.

I ordered the chicken fingers dinner and got a house salad as my side. They have one of the best "standard" house salads of any similar chain, in my opinion. I don't remember how much it was because my friend picked up the check, but their prices are similar to O'Charleys and other similar places. My meal all together was probably around $15 or $16.

Like I usually say, I don't often review chain restaurants but Rafferty's is one that's pretty good.

Tokyo House, Horn Lake, MS

Tokyo House

MAP

Tokyo House is a new Chinese/Sushi restaurant in Horn Lake located in the shopping center where the Kroger is at Horn Lake Road and Goodman Road. I believe they have been open about two weeks.

I went there today for lunch with a friend on his suggestion and it was very good. I got the sashimi lunch special, which was a spicy crab roll and several pieces of sashimi and a spring roll. It was priced about the same as most other similar places. The total including a bottled drink was about $13.00.

I especially liked the sweet and sour sauce that came with the spring rolls. It had a little spicy kick to it that most types don't have, and I love spicy stuff.

It was plenty of food for lunch and everything was good, especially the crab roll. They told me that they have ordered a fountain drink machine and it should be in by next week so they will offer free refills on drinks.

I will definitely be back!

Dunkin Donuts, Southaven, MS

Dunkin' Donuts

Dunkin' Donuts is a chain restaurants and normally I don't review the chains I go to, but this one begged for it, unfortunately in a negative way.

I didn't list a map because they multiple locations around the area. The one in Southaven is on Airways Boulevard near the Sonic north of Goodman Road.

I went there this past Monday morning after work because I had a gift card from one of my credit card bonus points programs and got some donuts and a sausage breakfast sandwich. I ate one donut there and took the rest home and ate them over a couple of days.

Honestly, I'm glad it was free. The sandwich didn't have much taste at all and the donuts were about the same. I have $4.00 left on my gift card and next time, I'll probably just get some coffee.

They are also kind of expensive. The sandwich and one dozen chocolate donuts wound up costing almost $17.00. I rarely buy an whole dozen donuts but at most places, a dozen donuts is a few dollars depending on what you get, but at Dunkin' Donuts a dozen is apparently about $10.00.

Here is my first "not recommended" restaurant since I've started the blog. Krispy Kreme, Howard's, Donald's, Main Street Donuts, OB Donuts, or any of a multitude of other choices are a better option in my opinion.

The Cupboard, Memphis, TN

The Cupboard

MAP

The Cupboard has been around since 1943. They are currently located on Union Avenue just east of Cleveland Street, just down the street from the original location where they moved from 19 years ago. I had been to the old location several times but had only been to the new location once a few years ago.

I ordered the chicken fried steak, one of the Monday lunch specials, and it was ok. It wasn't great, but it was decent. I ordered pinto beans and mashed potatoes as my side items and they were both pretty good.

The chicken was fair, but it didn't seem to have much seasoning on it, so other than the breading, there's wasn't much taste. I'll be back again to try some of their other items and see how they are.

The price was about average. I think my total, including tip and drink was around $15.00.

They are a very popular restaurant so I imagine most of the other stuff is good, and in the past the food has always been good.

Brookhaven Pub and Grill, Memphis, TN

Brookhaven Pub

MAP

Brookhaven Pub is a bar and grill on Brookhaven Circle just North of Poplar Avenue, basically behind the Poplar-White Station Memphis Library. I went there this past Friday randomly. I intended to go to Fino's Deli but I didn't realize they had closed, and I wound up here, which is next door to where Fino's used to be.

The food was pretty good. I got a country fried steak and macaroni and cheese as a side. It wasn't great, but it was good and the prices were reasonable. All together including a drink and tax, it was about $13.00, which is cheaper than many other similar pubs. Even though it wasn't great, it was good and the service was really good and the food came out pretty quickly, and I'd still recommended it. I'll be back again to try some of their other items.
