Coletta Italian, Memphis, TN

 Colettas, South Parkway

MAP

Coletta's is a long time Italian restaurant in Memphis with two locations. I went to the older location on South Parkway just east of I-240. I had never been to this location before this trip.

Honestly, I wasn't all that impressed. The service was good but the food wasn't much more than average. I ordered lasagna and spaghetti and an appetizer of fried ravioli. The entree was decent but the ravioli was pretty bland.

I'm not saying I won't go back but I'll try something different if I do. My total was about $36 including a drink, tax, and tip so the prices aren't bad. I know other folks that have been there and said it's really good.

Mitchell's Breakfast Burritos, West Memphis, AR

Mitchell's

MAP

Mitchell's is a small breakfast and lunch restaurant in West Memphis basically at the corner of East Broadway Boulevard and Thompson Avenue a few blocks east of I-40. I was passing through West Memphis on the way to Missouri and went there a couple of days ago based on reviews I saw on the internet, and it was fantastic!

The owner was there (I assume he works there every day) and he was a really nice guy. He told me about his family and how all the items on the menu are named after his family members.

I ordered the Kay's Three Alarm burrito and it was great! I will definitely be back when I can. Unfortunately I don't get over to West Memphis very often but it's on my list now!

The prices were pretty good as well. My total was just under $20 including the meal, a drink, tax, and a drink.

A&R Barbecue, Memphis, TN

A&R Barbecue

MAP

A&R is a small barbecue restaurant in the shopping center at the corner of Hickory Hill Road and Winchester Road in the south end of the shopping center across the street from Big Daddy's Pawn Shop. They used to have another location but apparently it's no longer there. I can't find it listed on their website any more.

I went to the other location which was on Elvis Presley Boulevard about four years ago and it was some of the best barbecue I had ever eaten.

The barbecue tonight was great. I got the spicy and it was perfect. It wasn't so hot that it didn't have taste but it was just hot enough to kick. To be honest, the fries were a little soggy but they tasted good and the onion rings were good. The service was good as well.

The total for a pork place and a drink was right at $20 which was pretty decent for the amount of food I got. I will definitely be back.

Los Cabos, Southaven, MS

Los Cabos

MAP

Los Cabos is a relatively new Mexican restaurant in Southaven on Goodman Road at Malone Road behind the Taco Bell. They also have one or two locations in Memphis. I went there last week to try it and have already been back again.

The food was great and prices are pretty reasonable, especially for their queso.

The first time I ordered a chicken and rice dish and an appetizer of Choriqueso and tonight I ordered a Quesadilla Mexicana and the Choriqueso again. Everything was really good and the service was great as well.

I will definitely be back.

Pita Mediterranean Grill, Southaven, MS

Pita Mediterranean

MAP

Pita is a new Mediterranean restaurant on Goodman Road at Malone Road behind the Taco Bell. I went there a few days ago for dinner. It was pretty good. Honestly I like Happy Greek in Memphis better but Pita was good. I was a little surprised that it was better because it's been getting rave reviews.

Anyway, I will still go back, I just didn't like it as much as Happy Greek.

I ordered the Lamb and Beef Gyro platter and it came with plenty of food. I was a little surprised that it only came with one piece of pita bread since there was plenty of meat plus quite a bit of hummus. Next time I will ask for a second piece of bread.

I don't remember the exact prices but it was reasonable for what I got.

I do recommended if you like Mediterranean food and like I said, I will definitely go back.

Capital Mexican is a new Mexican restaurant in Southaven at the corner of Church Road and Elmore behind the Autozone. It used to be Santa Rosa but they closed and this new restaurant opened in their slot.

I went there last week for the first time and it was really good. I ordered the Pollo Fundido. The prices were about the same as most other similar restaurants and the service was very good. I will definitely be back again.

Los Comales, Memphis, TN

Los Comales

MAP

Los Comales is a Mexican restaurant with two location in the area. I went to the location on Perkins Road a few weeks which is on Perkins a little south of American Way.

A friend of mine suggested it for lunch before a band rehearsal Sunday a few weeks ago. I had been there before but it had been a number of years back when I worked in that area.

The food was really good. I don't remember the exact price but it was comparable to most other Mexican restaurants that I've been to.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla and thought it was really good. Their queso and salsa was good also.

Dyer's Burgers, Downtown Memphis - burger and fries combo

I've posted about Dyer's in Collierville a few times. The burgers are okay but I honestly don't think they are as good as they used to.

The Flying Saucer is a beer garden and grill in Cordova on Germantown Parkway a little north of Cordova Road on the east side. I went there last week for the first and it was so good I went back a couple of days later and then again a few days later.

The first night I ordered fish and chips with a salad and the next time I ordered the Jaberwock burger. A friend of mine and I were in that area that next Sunday and I ordered the Jaberwock burger again. The fish and chips entree was so large it was enough for two full meals.

Everything was really good. I don't really remember the prices but they were about average for a popular night spot. I will definitely be back.

I ordered the Blues Burger with bleu cheese and balsamic reduction with a side salad instead of fries and it was great. I also ordered a side of cheese sticks with marinara sauce which were also very good.

The prices were about average. With a drink the total was about $29. I will definitely be back.

Motimer's Memphis, TN

Mortimer's

MAP

Mortimer's is a bar and grill on Perkins Road just north of Sam Cooper Boulevard. It's been there a long time but I've only been there a few times for some reason.

I went there this past Wednesday for lunch and it was really good. I don't really know why I don't go there more often.

I ordered Cajun catfish with home fries, a salad, and a bowl of French onion soup. All of that was really good. I also got an order of tamales with chili and onions to go for dinner later that same day. To be honest I was a little underwhelmed by the tamales. They were okay just nothing special. I've been trying to find a replacement for loaded tamales since a place near me quit having them.

The total for my original order was about $26 including a drink and tax and the order to go was about $13. I will definitely try to make it back more often.
