Fino's from the Hill, Memphis, TN

Fino's

MAP

Fino's is a sandwich shop at the corner of Madison Avenue and McLean Boulevard. The closed last year but reopened a couple of months ago under new owners as I understand it. I had been there once before a few years and it is still as good as it used to be.

I got a half New York Club and a half tuna and both were very good. Prices are average for a cafe like this. I my total with a bottled soda was a little under a little under $20.

MENU

Even though I got the half, I should have only picked one because the half is plenty of food. Next time, I'll get one to go instead.

Definitely give them a try.

Big Bad Breakfast, Oxford, MS

Big Bad Breakfast

MAP

Big Bad Breakfast is a regional chain with a location in Oxford, MS. A few months ago a friend told me about it and I had it on my list and I was finally able to get there this morning. It's on Lamar Avenue west of Highway 7, across the street from Handy Andy Barbecue which I posted about a little over a week ago. If you see the Oxford YMCA you're in the right parking lot.

I got a creole omelet which was great. It's am omelet with shrimp, andouille (sausage), onions, tomatoes, cheddar, tomato gravy, and green onions. It also came with a biscuit and a side and I chose fresh fruit. It was fantastic! I would never have thought about shrimp in an omelet but it was great.

Prices are reasonable for what you get. The price of entire plate was about $13.00 before tax but a good price for everything you get. I don't don't know what the exact total was; a met a friend of mine and he treated me.

I will definitely be back when I'm over that way.

One and Only Barbecue, Southaven, MS

One and Only

MAP

One and Only is a local chain with four locations, three in Memphis and a new location in Southaven. I have been to the location in Memphis on Perkins Road a couple of times and thought I had already posted about it but I can't find a link.

I went to the location in Southaven yesterday. It is on Airways Boulevard just south of Marathon Way between Olive Garden and Red Lobster.

I got a cheeseburger and mac and cheese as the side and my friend got a barbecue sandwich. My food was great and my friend said his barbecue was also. I also ordered a few chicken drummies. I had already tried those at the location in Memphis and knew they would be great also. They have a choice of several different sauces but I like them just as they are. They use a Greek dry rub and are fantastic without anything added to, although they came with ranch dressing which was really good.

Prices are reasonable. My total for four drummies and my other food was just under $20.00 before tip.

I don't get to the location in Memphis too often but now that there is one near me, I will get there more often.

Handy Andy Barbecue, Oxford, MS

Handy Andy

MAP

Handy Andy is a barbecue restaurant in Oxford on North Lamar Boulevard west of Highway 7 and north of Highway 6. I was in Oxford yesterday and had already eaten an early lunch but had been wanting to try them so I stopped by for just a sandwich.

Someone recommended them to me not long ago but didn't tell me it was a barbecue restaurant. Most barbecue restaurants have really good cheeseburgers but I didn't get a cheeseburger today. I'll have to try that next time. I was actually expecting it to be a lunch counter in a hardware store since there used to be a hardware store chain by the same same but it wasn't. It is an individual restaurant.

Today I ordered a regular barbecue sandwich and an order of beans and both were really good. Both things tasted a little different than I've had at other places. It was sort of similar to Payne's but different and very good in it's own way. I tried the mild and the hot sauce and both were good. The hot sauce was hot but not too hot.

Prices were very reasonable. The total for a sandwich, order of beans, and a drink was less than $8.00.

Next time I get over that way I'll post a more detailed blog; I'll get a full meal next time. I definitely recommend it based on what I had today.

Philip's Grocery, Oxford, MS

Phillip's Grocery

MAP

Phillip's Grocery is a small cafe on South Lamar Boulevard in Oxford just a few blocks south of Highway 6. I went there this yesterday for an early lunch based on a recommendation of a friend. It was very quaint and the food was really good.

I got a mushroom Swiss burger and a side of onion rings. The burger was really good and the onion rings were crispy and not chewy like some places.

The price was a little higher than I expected but not overpriced. They don't have combos so everything is a la carte it seems. The total including a drink and tax was a little less that $14.00 but like I said, it was not overpriced and well worth what I paid.

I got there right before they opened at 10:30 and no other customers were there but by the time I was finished, several people were there and a couple of people came in for to go orders.

It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Wyatt Earp's Steakhouse, Millington, TN

Wyatt Earp's

MAP

Wyatt Earp's Steakhouse is a steak house in Millington on Highway 51 a few blocks north of Navy Road, just north of Veterans Parkway near the Hampton Inn. They used to have location in Munford but opened this location about a year ago I think. They also have a location in Convington but I haven't been there.

The food is great. I had been to the Munford location a few times but not recently. I went to the new Millington location tonight and I ordered the "Billy the Kid" which is a 10 ounce sirloin and it was cooked exactly like I ordered it. I also got a salad and baked potato as my side items.

Everything was great and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Before tip, my total including a drink and tax was just under $23.00, a good deal for the quality. The service was very good as well. The food came out very quickly and the waitress was very friendly.

Raceway, Southaven, MS

Raceway

MAP

Raceway is a gas station and food mart with multiple locations around the country. The one I go to is in Southaven on Stateline Road just east of I-55. It's odd that I would review a location like this but I really like their food. It's open 24 hours and we go there occasionally late at night from work when we need a snack.

They are a convenience store so they have the normal things like drinks and candy bars but they also sell fresh food. I usually get chicken strips. It's reasonably priced. Three pretty large chicken strips are about $6 and it comes with a biscuit. I'll keep this short but I definitely recommend them for a late night snack. They start cooking various foods around 2:00 AM most days.
