The Kitchen Table, Arlington, TN

The Kitchen Table

MAP

The Kitchen Table is a relatively new restaurant in Arlington on Forrest Street just south of Highway 79 in the square area where Vinegar Jim's used to be. I went there today for lunch and overall I was really impressed.

They have a lunch menu and the prices are pretty good. The lunch combos are $13. I ordered crawfish lasagna and Parmesan garlic truffle potatoes. The potatoes were okay but needed a little sauce to go with them. The lasagna was really good.

I also ordered a pork and cheese plate which was pretty good but a little expensive considering how small it was. It wasn't sausage but instead "burnt ends" pork but it was good and the barbecue sauce it came with was pretty good too.

I will definitely go back again. Several things on the menu sounded really good.

The Chicken Shack, Southaven, MS

The Chicken Shack

MAP

The Chicken Shack is a fast food chicken restaurant on Getwell Road in Southaven just north May Boulevard. I normally don't review fast food places or chains but they are new to the city and they are really good.

I've been there a couple of times now and definitely recommend it. The prices are probably about average for a fast food place. For a five piece chicken strip meal and a mac and cheese nugget appetizer it's about $20 and it's more food than I can eat. Next time I will either not get the appetizer (but it's really good) or I'll get the three piece combo instead.

This is one of the few fast food places I recommend.

Other recent trips:

Hernando One Stop #3

I went there a few weeks ago while in the area. I normally give places I've never been before their own page but in this case I didn't want to. The food was...edible but nothing special. The prices were okay but I'd recommend Mike's in Walls, MS over Hernando One Stop. I got chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese and all of it needed salt and I rarely put salt on anything.

Los Reyes, Millington, TN

Los Reyes

MAP

Los Reyes is a Mexican restaurant on Highway 51 just north of Highway 385 as you enter Millington from Memphis. I was in Millington a couple of weeks ago and was headed to a different restaurant but that restaurant closed early. I stopped at Los Reyes on the way back.

The food was really good. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and queso. I don't remember the exact price but it was average for a Mexican restaurant.

The service was really good as well and I will definitely be going back.

Other recent trips:

Renee's Sandwich Shop, 202 GE Patterson Ave, Memphis, TN. They don't have a web site. - Tuna Sandwich

Fuji Japanese Express, Southaven, MS

Fuji

MAP

Fuji is a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar on Church Road a little east of Highway 51 on the north side by Casa Mexicana. We ordered from there a few days ago at work and I was really impressed.

I ordered one of the combo meals, a side order of a crab egg roll, and a third sushi roll for later in the evening (we work 12 hour shifts). Everything was really good but the egg roll and the sauce that came with it werr great! My total was about $35 but for everything I got it was a good price.

I want to go over there and eat in the restaurant because I'm sure it's even better fresh. I definitely recommend it and I will be going soon!

Slider Inn, Memphis, TN

Slider Inn

MAP

Slider Inn is a bar and grill on Peabody just west of Cooper Street. They advertise a lobster roll and claim to be the "first in Memphis." I went there a few weeks ago to try it and it was great.

It's not cheap because it's lobster. It's listed on the menu as market price. I've been back since because it was so good. My total for the sandwich, fries, a drink, tax, and tip (they add a service charge automatically but I asked the waitress and she said that the servers get that money) was $31 so it's not really all that expensive.

My friend ordered a three slider entree and he said the burgers were really good as well.

I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back!

Sushi vs. Tequila, Millington, TN

Sushi vs. Tequila

MAP

Sushi vs. Tequila is a Mexican/Japanese fusion restaurant in Millington on Highway 51/TN-3 a few blocks north of Navy Road, just before you get to Huey's. I went there last week at the suggestion of a coworker and was really impressed.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla combo with sushi and there was a choice of several rolls. I ordered the Arlington which was good but sort of sweet. I enjoyed it but I will try a different one next time.

The food was good and not really overpriced. I spent about $30 but that included a large queso that my friend and I split and a drink. I went back a few night later but they closed early that night. I plan on going back soon.

Esmeralda's

MAP

Esmeralda's is a small taco shop on Highway 178 in Olive Branch, a few blocks northwest of Highway 302, just west of where the Neighborhood Grill is. I went there a few weeks ago and it was really good. It's pretty new. A few months ago the building wasn't even there.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla and queso and was really impressed. I will go back soon and try their tacos as well. The prices were about average probably but a little higher than I expected considering it isn't a full service restaurant but they weren't outrageous. You place your order at the register and they bring it to you. Nonetheless I really enjoyed it and will be back!

Momma's Bar, Memphis, TN

Momma's

MAP

Momma's is a bar/lounge at the corner of Kentucky Street and E.H. Crump Boulevard in Memphis. It used to be called the Dirty Crow and I don't know if it's the same people or not. The menu seemed to be very similar but I didn't happen to ask if it was the same. I went there a few days ago for a late night dinner and it was great!

The service was really good and they weren't really all that busy for a Thursday night. When I first got there, several people at the bar were being loud and obnoxious but not long after I got there, they left. Keep in mind, it is definitely a bar. They also have an outside patio and had live music that night.

I ordered a pimento burger and fries and both were good and it was plenty of food. I had originally thought I was going to order an appetizer but I'm glad I didn't. I will definitely go back!

Mike's Food and Gas Station, Walls, MS

MAP

Mike's is a gas station with a lunch counter in Walls, MS at the corner of Poplar Corner Road and Goodman Road. They don't seem to have a website. I went there a couple of weeks ago for lunch based on the suggestion of a coworker.

Normally I wouldn't review a gas station but the food was really good and reasonably priced. They have some typical gas station food but also had some atypical food as food. I ordered lasagna with mac and cheese and a piece of fish. The girl said it was cheaper to go ahead and get a one piece dinner so I got an order of mashed potatoes (yeah, a lot of starches that day).

Let me tell you, the food was great. The price for everything was only $12 and it was more than enough for two meals.

I will definitely go back! It's a great lunch deal.

Various Places, Savannah, TN

A couple of weeks ago I was in Savannah, TN visiting relatives and over the course of two days we ate at two places. I am putting them on the same page for brevity.

Mollie Monday's - club sandwich and one trip salad bar - very good, highly recommended

Los Potosina - shrimp, beef, chicken quesadilla - very good Mexican food

Yellowfin Hibachi and Sushi, Hernando, MS

Yellowfin

MAP

Yellowfin is a Japanese sushi restaurant in Hernando on McInvale Road just south of Commerce Street. I went there a few weeks ago with a friend on his suggestion. They had mixed reviews but what I got was really good. I ordered a Las Vegas Roll but I don't remember what the second one was, and a spring roll.

Everything was good but they were a little higher than the place I usually go for similar rolls. I will still go back though. The food was good.

Cream and Sugar Cafe, Iuka, MS

Cream and Sugar

Facebook Page

MAP

Cream and Sugar is a small cafe on Front Street at the corner of North Main Street in Iuka, MS. I went there a few weeks ago on suggestion of a friend while I was in the area visiting relatives.

I ordered a salsa burger with a salad. Both were good and the burger was great. I don't remember the price but it was reasonable for what I got. I will definitely go back.

Stage 64 Lounge, Bartlett, TN

Stage 64

MAP

Stage 64 is a bar/lounge on Highway 64 just a little east of Summer Avenue/Highway 79. I went there a few weeks ago for lunch one Sunday afternoon.

I ordered a cheese and sausage plate and an order of jalapeno poppers. Both were pretty good. The cheese plate had lots of cheese on it, more than most place although it doesn't really look like it in the picture. I don't remember the exact price but it was average. A friend of mine met me there and he got a burger and he said it was really good.

I will definitely go back.

Bites and Treats, Southaven, MS

Bites and Treats

MAP

Bites and Treats is a small cafe/laundry mat at the corner of Highway 51 and Rasco Road in Southaven, MS. I went there a few weeks ago. They sell various things but they have Mexican food and homemade ice cream. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and scoop of chocolate ice cream.

Both were very good. I don't remember the exact price was prices were pretty decent. They were a little slow BUT I got there just after they opened and was the first customer for the day so I'm sure it took a few minutes to get the griddle going. I will definitely be back!

Wolf River Cafe, Rossville, TN

Wolf River Cafe

MAP

Wolf River Cafe is a small family cafe in Rossville on Highway 194 which is Main Street, at the corner of Front Street. I went there a few days on suggestion of a friend who had someone suggest it to him.

We went early because everybody says they get pretty crowded around 5:00 PM and they are only open until 8:00 or 8:30.

I ordered catfish and added a few pieces of shrimp. My friend ordered the same thing and he also got an order of loaded fries.

The food was great and services was fantastic. The prices are reasonable. My total was only about $26 including a drink before tip. I highly recommend them if you're in the area.

Tommy's Burgers, Memphis, TN

Tommy's Burgers

MAP

Tommy's Burgers is a new burger joint on Park Avenue just west of Mount Moriah Road on the south side next to the gas station. I think they are a chain and I normally don't review chain restaurants but they are new to the area and were pretty good.

I went there a couple of Sunday's ago after a rehearsal. I ordered a burger and fries but they have a lot of things on their menu including breakfast which I've heard is really good as well and Mexican dishes as well. I think they used to be a taco place.

The burger and fries were pretty good and reasonably priced considering it is a full service diner and not just a fast food place. The total was about $14 for a burger, fries, and drink combo and the service was really good.

The seating is all booths except for a few counter seats. I will definitely be back.

Other recent trips:

Mr. P's Southaven, MS - loaded tamales. They were okay but not great.
