Let it Fly, Germantown, TN

Let it Fly

MAP

Let it Fly is a sports bar in Germantown on Poplar Avenue just west of Forest Hill Irene Road. I went there a couple of weeks ago while in the area. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and barbecue fries. To be honest the quesadilla was okay but not great but the fries were pretty darn goo and the service was great.

The total was just over $20 before tip which wasn't bad for what all I got. I will definitely be back.

Other recent trips:

10th Inning, Southaven - sausage and cheese plate

Tortilleria la Unica, Memphis, TN

 Tortilleria la Unica MAP

Tortilleria la Unica is a small Mexican restaurant on Summer Avenue just west of White Station Road in the old Wendy's building. I don't know how long it's been there but I think it's relatively new. I went there for lunch a coupe of weeks ago after running an errand in the area. I couldn't find a web page for them.

I ordered off the lunch menu and got a tamale and chicken quesadilla and it was really good! I don't remember how much it was but it was about average.

I highly recommend them and I will be back!

Other recent trips:

Renee's Sandwich Shop, Memphis - tuna sandwich and fries

Brunswick Kitchen, Arlington, TN - Country friend chicken, mashed potatoes, salad

Patrick's, Memphis, TN

Patrick's

MAP

Patrick's is an Irish pub on Park Avenue just west of Mt. Moriah. I met a friend there a couple of weeks ago for lunch. I had been there before but it had been several years. One of the waitresses was actually from Ireland!

I ordered a club sandwich with a side of onion rings and mac and cheese. Everything was really good and the service was great. The total before tip was right at $20. I will definitely be back.

Other recent trips:

La Llamarada, Memphis - empanadas and tamales, some of the best in the city

El Marcadito, Memphis - lamb tacos, and they are fantastic!

Sauced by Will Smith, Southaven, MS

Sauced

MAP

Sauced by Will Smith (no, not THAT Will Smith) is a wings restaurant in Southaven, MS near the Malco Theater on Goodman Road just east of Airways Boulevard. I had heard good things about it and I went there for the first time about three weeks ago. I didn't get wings but instead tried a cheeseburger and it was very good. I'm not going to say it was the best I've had but it was really good.

A friend rode with me and she got catfish I think and an order of fried green tomatoes. I tried one of the tomatoes and they were the best I've had. I definitely recommend this place!

My total about a little over $17 which wasn't bad for the amount of food I got. I will definitely be back to try some of the other things!

Other trips that same week:

Kublai Khan, Southaven, MS - Las Vegas roll and Crazy Grill roll

Milano's Pizza, Southaven, MS - Pizza and salad

Young Avenue Deli, Memphis, TN - The Politically Incorrect (basically a Reuben sandwich)

Victor's Pizza, Holly Springs, MS

Victor's Pizza MAP

I couldn't find a web page so I just posted a map link. Victor's is a small pizza cafe in Holly Springs on J.M. Ash Drive just east of Craft Street which is a little north of Highway 78. I was in town and ate lunch at another place and stopped by to try them. I was hoping they sold single slices as I just wanted to try the pizza, but he doesn't. Not an issue in an of itself. Many pizza places don't sell by the slice.

He does takeout only, no dine in, which again isn't a really big deal, but he doesn't let you wait inside the restaurant because he's still running on COVID rules. You have to wait in your car or come back later. He said it takes about 30 minutes to make a pizza. I didn't know that until I had already ordered and paid and to be honest, he was a little rude about it. I didn't know so I was just going to sit and wait but after I paid he said he told me I had to wait outside. To be fair to him, when I came back in to get pizza he was nice. I don't think he meant to be rude and I got caught up on a couple of podcasts while I waited.

I thought the pizza was a little pricey, almost $17 for a small personal sized pizza and a canned Diet Coke, but the pizza had plenty of toppings. I ordered the "Victor's Special" which was beef, mushrooms, and onions and he put plenty of each on the pizza.

The pizza wasn't anything spectacular but it was okay. Honestly if I am back in the area I probably wouldn't go there again but that's mainly because it's takeout only. If he eventually changes to dine-in I'd try it again.

The pizza wasn't bad, just not "great" so if you're in the area and want to try it, let me know how it is!

Other trips the last few days:

Belmont Grill, Memphis, TN - Club sandwich with chips, and an order of steak fries

Kennel Club, Batesville, MS - Blackened grouper, cheese plate, fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits

Ole Sawmill Cafe, Forrest City, AR - various items and a salad, it's a buffet

Olympic Steakhouse, Arlington, TN - Chicken Parmesan and a salad

Annie's Restaurant, Holly Springs, MS

Annie's

MAP

Annie's is a small cafeteria on Craft Street just a little north of Highway 78/22. I went there Monday almost two weeks ago for lunch and it was great! I don't remember where I heard about it but it's worth a trip. When I first went in I thought it was a buffet but it turns out it's cafe style.

I got a baked chicken breast, black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, and green beans and everything was fantastic. The total with a drink before tip was about $15 so it was reasonably priced and the service was great.

I will definitely go back when I'm in the area and I highly recommend it.

El Mercadito, Memphis, TN

El Mercadito

MAP

El Mercadito is a authentic Mexican restaurant on Ridgeway Road a little south of Winchester Road. Only one employee I've seen to far speaks any English. I ate there a few days ago because I heard they have lamb tacos that are great but it turns out they only have them on the weekends.

I went back yesterday and got the tacos, and yep, they were great! I highly recommend them.

The first trip I got a quesadilla which was very good and this time I got the lamb tacos.

The total for the quesadilla was about $27 but that included two canned drinks and a large queso. The total for the lamb tacos was about $34 but that included two bottled Cokes, a canned Diet Coke, and a large queso.

Nonna Maria, Barlett, TN

Nonna Maria

Facebook Page

MAP

Nonna Maria is an Italian cafe in Bartlett on Memphis-Arlington Road just south of St. Elmo Road. I went there for lunch last week based on several recommendations.

They are similar to Milano's, and in fact, the waiter told me the pizza was the same and they have a Milano's sign inside the restaurant.

I thought the food was really good. I ordered a chicken Parmesan sandwich and a slice of pizza and my friend ordered a calzone or something similar.

The total was almost $40 with tip but it was reasonable for what all we got. I would definitely recommend giving them a try.

Other trips that week:

Castle Restaurant, Memphis, TN - Gyro and fries, and a piece of chocolate cake

Slim and Husky's Pizza, Memphis, TN

Slim and Husky's Pizza

MAP

Slim and Husky's is a pizza joint on Union Avenue just west of Marshall Avenue. I went there last Monday after I tried to go to another place in midtown only that wound up being closed on Mondays. I saw it randomly and went it and got a pizza.

They do pizza like Subway does sandwiches. You tell them what kind of dough, then pick your ingredients, then they cook it and and give it to you.

It was really good. I got beef and shrimp with a several different types toppings. It doesn't take long for it to cook.

My total was about $18 with a drink but I got three kinds of meat. If you get one meat it's a lot cheaper. The service was great also.

I will definitely be back!

Las Delicias, Memphis, TN

Las Delicias

MAP

Las Delicias is a small Mexican restaurant with two locations, one on Quince which I've never been to and the original location which is in the shopping center at the corner of Park Avenue and Getwell Road on the south side. I've been there several times and thought I had posted about them before but apparently I haven't.

The food is really good and they are relatively inexpensive. I don't remember how much my total was but you can easily get a full meal for around $10 (even though of course, you can spend more than that).

I went there about three weeks ago for lunch. I ordered a chicken quesadilla which is only $7 or $8 but I got a queso and drink and I think my total was around $16 or $18.

I highly recommend them.

Other recent trips:

One and Only Barbecue, Germantown Road - Chicken Quesadilla

El Porton, Collierville, TN - Chicken and rice

Milano's Southaven, MS - the daily pizza special

Brickhouse Buffet, Bartlett, TN - various things

The Beauty Shop, Memphis, TN

The Beauty Shop

Facebook Page

MAP

The Beauty Shop is a small cafe in the Cooper/Young area, right near the corner of Cooper Street and Young Avenue. It's across Cooper Street from Cafe Ole just north of First Congregational Church. I went there this past Monday for lunch and it was fantastic!

It doesn't have its own parking but I got lucky and got a spot on the street nearby and there is parking just across the street behind Cafe Ole.

It was already on my list but someone sent me a link to a video where a food reviewer from Israel went there when he was in Memphis and after watching the video I made it a point to go there. Here is a link to the video.

The Jewish Foodie

I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Fish Sandwich and the Oy Ve Fries (I ordered the fries based on the recommendation from the video). Both were great but the fries were out of this world!

The service was also fantastic. I can't recommend them enough.

My total was about $35 including tip. I think the total before tip was right at $30. For everything I got that was very reasonable.

I will definitely be back! In fact, I'm thinking about going there for lunch again today.

Other trips this past week or so. I put prices if I remembered them.

Marshall's Steakhouse, Holly Springs - Filet, sausage and cheese plate $65

Avellino's, Southaven - Boneless wings and jalapeƱo poppers $9 on Saturday BOGO special

The Happy Mexican on Winchester, Memphis - Barbecue nachos $12 or $13 IIRC

Cinco de Mayo, Olive Branch - Chicken, spinach, cheese sauce (can't remember what it's called)

Maria's Cantina, Southaven - Chicken chimichanga, frozen peach margarita

My Favorite Place, Cordova - Chicken chimichanga

Lost Pizza, Memphis - Tamales, queso (no option for "fully loaded" tamales like Southaven)

Milano's Pizza, Southaven - daily two slice special only $8

Moe's Southwestern Grill, Olive Branch - Quesadilla about $12

I don't usually review chain places but wanted to show the food. I hadn't been to a Moe's in a number of years. The food is still pretty good and prices are a little cheaper than similar places like Salsarita's.
