Wiseguys Pizza, Horn Lake, MS

Wiseguys Google reviews

MAP

Wiseguys is a small pizza parlor on Highway 51 a little south of Church Road, just north of the Horn Lake fire department on Highway 51. They have pizza, sandwiches, a few appetizers, and a few other items. The owner is from Chicago so the restaurant is decorated with Chicago related paraphernalia. I've been there a couple of times but until today, only had the pizza. Today I also tried a Pepper Jack Fried cheese appetizer, which was fantastic. It came with marinara sauce and ranch dressing, and I thought ranch was the way to go. The marinara tasted fine but just wasn't the better choice for this particular appetizer.

I also really liked the pizza also. I got the thin crust "Junkyard" which is basically a supreme. It's 3 or 4 kinds of meat plus bell pepper, olives, and mushrooms. I've never had any sandwiches there, but they always look great.

Prices are what some might consider a little high, (for instance, the small pizza was about $17, and the deep dish is about $6 dollars more) but a small thin crust is enough for two meals for most people. I ate more than I should have and still had several pieces to take home.

Hollywood Cafe, Robinsonville, MS

The Hollywood Cafe

MAP

Hollywood Cafe, known as "The Hollywood" is a small restaurant in Robinsonville, MS not far from the casinos, but completely unrelated to them. It's been there in it's original location since 1969, so it existed well before any of the casinos, and it's only a minor coincidence that there is a casino named Hollywood nearby.

Known for it's fried dill pickles, and for being mentioned back in 1990 by Marc Cohn in his song Walking in Memphis, Hollywood has had a great reputation for as long as I can remember.

Bonus! Walking in Memphis video, Marc Cohn

I've been there several times, but tonight's dinner choice was the fried jalapenos and a club sandwich with sour cream and mayo based potato salad, all of which were good, but the potato salad was particularly good.

Prices are fair, about average for a diner. It's a little off the beaten path, so if you don't know where it is, use your GPS.

Pickle and Jam is a cafe at the Gold Strike Casino in Robinsonville, MS. I’ve been here several times and everything has been great.  Even if you don't gamble, there are plenty of good restaurants to check out.

This picture is from breakfast 12/27/2017. Western Omelet with salsa and hash brown potatoes, and a side order of biscuits and gravy.

The food was great and the portions are always huge. I can never eat all of it and there's plenty to take home. The prices are very reasonable for what you get.

Kublai Khan Southaven, MS

Kublai Khan

MAP

Kublai Khan is a Mongolian stir fry restaurant on Airways Blvd in Southaven, MS, but I go there for the sushi.

This is the Las Vegas roll and the Crazy Grill roll from 12/26/2017 dinner. It was great as always. Neither of these particular sushi rolls uses raw fish (a question that always comes up) and in fact, the Las Vegas roll is fried.

The Las Vegas roll is salmon, cream cheese, avocado, mayo, sriracha, and a jalapeno slice, served best, in my opinion, with soy sauce.

The Crazy Grill roll is crab, tempura shrimp and seared salmon, with spicy mayo, served best, again in my opinion, with eel sauce. Both rolls were great tonight as usual.

Prices are about average for a sushi restaurant.

The stir fry bowl is also really good, it's just not what I usually get.

Taco Felix Southaven, MS

Taco Felix is a small Mexican restaurant on Commerce Street in Hernando, MS.

I’m a huge Mexican food fan and this place is great. This is a Mexican omelet with salsa and sour cream, breakfast from 12/26/2017. The small is 6 eggs. The open early and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The omelet is good. The only other place where I had a Mexican omelet that was better was Brother Juniper's in Memphis, which I haven't been to recently.

Prices are pretty good here, about average with most other Mexican restaurants.
