Ragin' Cajun, Bartlett, TN

Ragin' Cajun

MAP

Ragin' Cajun is which I think is a relatively new restaurant in Bartlett on Bartlett Road and Sycamore View Road right across from the softball and soccer fields. I went there a few days ago thinking it was a Mexican restaurant named El Idolo but I didn't realize that had closed. El Idolo moved not too far away but reopened under the name Lopez Grill (and it is great, I reviewed it previously but didn't realize it was the same owner).

I ordered Cajun chicken pasta and a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo and everything was really good. The prices were reasonable. I think my total including a drink and tax was around $30.

I will definitely go back and I recommend trying them!

Yaki Bowl, Bartlett, TN

Yaki Bowl

MAP

Yaki Bowl is a relatively new stir fry restaurant in Bartlett on Stage Road just east of Bartlett Boulevard where O'Charley's used to be. I went there this past week for dinner and was very impressed. I didn't get a stir fry bowl because I wasn't all that hungry but opted for General Tso's Chicken from the Chinese menu.

The prices were reasonable and there was plenty of food and I thought it was very good. The service was also really good.

My friend did get a bowl and said it was very good as well. I definitely recommend them.

The Bar-B-Q Shop, Memphis, TN

The Bar-B-Q Shop

MAP

The Bar-B-Q Shop is a long time Memphis restaurant on Madison Avenue a little east of North Belvedere Road. I had never been there before and went for the first time last week and must say, I was impressed. I like barbecue but it's not one of my favorite foods so I don't order it very often.

The barbecue sandwich at this place was really good. I've heard good things about their barbecue spaghetti also but forget to order that. I'll try it next time.

The prices were decent. I don't remember exactly but for everything I got the total was a little over $20 from what I recall. The service was also very good.

I definitely recommend them if you like barbecue.

Las Maria's Modern Mexican Kitchen, Horn Lake, MS

Maria's Mexican Kitchen

MAP

Maria's is a new Mexican restaurant in Horn Lake on Goodman Road a little east of Tulane Road. I went there a few days ago for dinner.

The food was good but unfortunately I didn't get exactly what I asked for. I ordered a chicken quesadilla but they brought me a cheese quesadilla. They did charge me the cheaper price for the cheese quesadilla so I don't have any real complaints, it just wasn't what I wanted.

I will definitely go back and try the chicken one next time!

The prices were reasonable for what I got. The total was just over $16 including everything including a couple of dollars for a tip so I was pleased with the price.

Mr. Donut, Horn Lake, MS

Mr. Donut

MAP

Mr. Donut is a donut shop on Goodman Road West in Horn Lake a couple of blocks west of Highway 51. I had kept hearing how good their tamales were (yes tamales) and I finally got to try them.

They were reasonably priced. My total was a little over $14 for six tamales and a drink. I will definitely be back!

Art House Cafe, Memphis, TN

Art House Cafe

MAP

Art House is a small cafe on Mississippi Boulevard a few blocks north of I-240. I went there this past week based on a recommendation.

I got a catfish platter with fries and coleslaw. He mentioned the homemade tarter sauce and it was really good. To be honest, the fish had an odd after taste. I think it was the oil it was fried it, however overall the food was really good and the service was great! He also mentioned they have a soul food Sunday each week.

The prices were pretty reasonable. I don't remember my total but the catfish basket is listed as $18.95 on the menu which is pretty good for seafood. It was two pretty large pieces.

There were several things on the menu that sounded good and I will be back!

South Point Grocery (and deli), Memphis, TN

South Point Grocery

MAP

South Point is a grocery store with a deli in downtown Memphis on Webster Avenue just east of Main Street just south of where the Arcade Restaurant is. It's on a nice quiet little street with parking easily available directly in front or just across a small street and some parking directly next to it. I only mention this because many places in downtown Memphis have no parking or very little parking.

I went there tonight based on reviews I've seen and it was great. The guys in the deli were great and made several recommendations. The deli is inside the store but there is some seating just outside on a nice veranda.

I ordered a Reuben sandwich (they call it Rick's Reuben) and it was fantastic. I also got a back of chips, a candy bar, and a Diet Mountain Dew from the store. There were several things that sounded really good so I will definitely be back.

The total was just under $17 for everything which was a reasonable price. Also, the prices in the store for groceries seemed to be reasonable.

Eggxactly, Memphis, TN

Eggxactly

MAP

Eggxactly is a breakfast and lunch restaurant on Marlin Road about two blocks east of Elvis Presley/Highway 51/Third Street in Memphis. I went there yesterday morning for breakfast.

I'm not a huge fan of breakfast food but I don't dislike it and I've heard great stuff about this place, and it was all correct! The service was excellent and the food was too!

What I got was a little expensive, I spent about $35 but I got catfish and pancakes (an interesting combination to be sure) and a side order of sausage.

Everything was really good and fresh and even though it was kind of a lot to spend for breakfast, it was worth it.

I would definitely recommend this place and I will be back.

For anyone who may be interested in this, it is a "posted" property, meaning there is a sign saying no guns or weapons are allowed so keep this in mind if you are a concealed carrier.

Pier 64, Bartlett, TN

Pier 64

MAP

Pier 64 is a relatively new seafood restaurant on Stage Road in Bartlett just west of Elmore Park Road. I went there for dinner tonight for the first time and was pretty impressed. Apparently (according to my credit card app) it's affiliated with Red Hook.

I ordered pick two or make your own combo, I don't remember exactly what it called. You could choose two items from catfish, shrimp, crab, and something else. I chose catfish and shrimp. My total bill for everything including tax before tip was only $18 although she didn't charge me for my drink.

I highly recommend them, especially for the price!

Also, just FYI if you're interested, they are posted as a no weapons zone.

Harry's Italian, Millington, TN

Harry's

MAP

Harry's Italian is a relatively new restaurant in Millington on Highway 51 a little south of Veteran's Parkway. I had been told good things about it and have been wanting to try it out a while a now.

I was able to get out there a few days ago and it was worth the drive.

I ordered the "Tour of Italy" which was Chicken Parmesan, lasagna, and linguini Alfredo with a side salad. Everything was really good and the prices were reasonable. The total was a little over $45 including tax, tip, and all the food which was very reasonable for all the food I got. I took a lot of it home and had enough for a second meal.

They also serve bread with olive oil as an appetizer which was very good as well.

The service was also very good. I will definitely be back!

Tony's Trophy Room, Collierville, TN

Tony's Trophy Room

MAP

Tony's Trophy Room is a sports bar on Poplar Avenue a couple of blocks west of Byhalia Road/Highway 175. I went there a few days ago for lunch while I was in the area.

I hadn't heard all that much about them but after I went and posted about it on Facebook several people commented that they were not good. One person said it was horrible restaurant. A few people said they liked it.

I didn't find it horrible but it wasn't anything impressive, at least not what I got. I ordered a club sandwich with fries. The sandwich was pretty good but the fries were kind of weird tasting to me. They were almost sweet like sweet potato fries but they weren't sweet potato fries nor did they look like sweet potato fries.

I'm not saying I won't go back, it's just not at the top of my list. The service was okay but nothing spectacular. I don't remember how much it was but it wasn't overpriced. It seemed to be about the same as most similar places.

Other recent trips:

Pop's Comfort Kitchen, Bartlett, TN - chicken and dumplings, my friend got country fried steak

La Estrella Grill, Olive Branch, MS

La Estrella

MAP

La Estrella is a new Mexican restaurant on Midsouth Drive in Olive Branch which is right off of Cockrum Road/Highway 305 a couple of blocks north US-78. I went there a few days ago for the first time based on several recommendations I saw on Facebook.

The food was good. I'm not going to give a glowing review like I saw on Facebook BUT it was definitely good and the service was good.

I go to a LOT of Mexican restaurants and frankly, most of them are about the same. Any time I hear "Oh but this one is the the best you've ever had!" I'm always skeptical.

That said though, La Estrella is good, I would definitely recommend it, and I will definitely go back.

I got a build your own dinner and got a chicken quesadilla, chicken enchilada, and a burrito. All together including a drink, cheese dip, and tax, the total was a little under $30 which is about average for the places I've seen.

Definitely give them a try!

Krazy Legs, Robinsonville, MS

No website that I could find so far. They are pretty new.

MAP

Krazy Legs is a new seafood restaurant on Highway 61 in Robinsonville (or what many people call Tunica but it's actually not quite as far south as Tunica) basically at the corner of Highway 61 and Harrah's Parkway on the east side.

I've been trying to get there for a few weeks but I'm not sure about their hours. A few times that I stopped by they should have been open but weren't but as I said, they are new and maybe they aren't settled in yet.

I did get a chance to go there this past Saturday and overall I was impressed.

I ordered a catfish shrimp combo and the total bill for everything before tip was about $31 which isn't bad for what I got.

In an effort to be honest, the catfish had an odd aftertaste but everything else including the shrimp and sides were really good. I will definitely go back but may not get catfish next time.

My friend got a pasta dish and he said it was really good as well.

Other recent trips:
