Okay so here's one of the posts that makes my blog "mostly" food.

Wicked Performance is a performance shop in Coldwater, MS on Highway 51 a little south of Arkabutla Road on the west side. I found them through a Google search a few months ago and a few weeks ago made an appointment for a street tune and I am very happy with their service so far. They haven't been there a long time, about a year I think they told me but all the owners are pretty knowledgeable about cars.

Some of you know I'm having trouble with my Corvette. It's getting bad gas mileage and most of the mechanics I've dealt with have flat-out told me I'm wrong. These guys knew all about my car, about what gas mileage it should be getting, and were able to diagnose a vacuum leak in just a few minutes that another shop couldn't find after keeping the car all day.

The street tune cost me $350 and some other places charge a lot more for the same tune. I have also ordered a cold air intake and a set of long tube header, both of which should be arrive in the next week or so then I'll make another appointment to have them installed. I was really happy with the price they quoted me.

They specialize in performance upgrades but will also do some regular repair work also. They also recommended another shop for things they don't do. I haven't been to that shop yet but if I do need to go there, I'll post a blog about them at that time.

So far I'm really impressed with these guys and highly recommend them!

 

 

 

Valero Gas Station and Food Mart, Southaven, MS

Valero is a national gas station chain but the local stores are all independent franchises. The one near my house at Stateline Road and just west of Swinnea has really good food. I've stopped there a couple of times in the last few weeks for breakfast on the way home from work. I usually get a sausage biscuit and a chicken biscuit. It's reasonably cheap, usually around $7 or $8 including a bottled drink.

I'll keep it pretty short since they are a chain but the local stores near me all seem to have pretty good food.

 

El Charro, Senatobia, MS

El Charro is a local restaurant with two location in the north Mississippi area. I was near the one in Senatobia a few days ago and stopped there for lunch. It's on Highway 51 just north of Highway 4 just as you get into the city if you're headed south on 51.

The food was really good and the prices were reasonable. My bill was right at $20 before tip including a drink and a small queso. I ordered a chicken chimichanga and everything was really good and I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

 

Skinny J's, Jonesboro, AR

Skinny J's is a regional chain with four locations in Arkansas. I went to the location in Jonesboro last night which is at Main Street and Cate Avenue for dinner and it was great. I ordered an appetizer of house made chips and pimento and cheese and that was fantastic and  that would have been enough for my entire meal. For the entree I got a filet and baked potato and those were great also. My friend ordered a filet also but he got a crab cake appetizer which he said was really good.

The prices aren't bad at all. My total for everything before tip was right at $50 but for what I got that was a good price.

The restaurant is in downtown but not difficult to get. There is a parking lot right next door to it and I got lucky and got the last space. Since it was Saturday night it was pretty busy but otherwise there was no problem with parking.

They were pretty busy and the service was a little slow but that wasn't their fault. Overall the service was great. I highly recommend them.

Erling Jensen

Erling Jensen is a restaurant on South Yates in Memphis a couple of blocks south of Poplar Avenue. I've posted about them before so I'll this short but they are one of the few places I will always post a separate blog for each time I go there.

I went there last Saturday for dinner and as always it was fantastic. I didn't have a reservation but got lucky and they had a table available near in the bar area.

I ordered the daily special, Sea Bass and a spinach salad. My friend ordered salmon and he said it was great also. My total was around $90 before tip. I can't recommend them enough.

Parish Oyster Bar, Hernando, MS

Parish Oyster Bar is a seafood restaurants on Commerce a little west of I-55. I went there last week for dinner and it was pretty good. I got catfish and shrimp basket with fries and slaw as a side item. I also got a side salad but the entree was plenty of food.

It wasn't cheap but, it's seafood. My total with a drink, not including a tip, was about $30 but for what I got, it wasn't overpriced.

The food was pretty good and I would definitely recommend it. The service was good and the food came out reasonably fast.
