Hole in One Grill is the cafe at the Brownstone Country Club in Marion on Club Circle west of Highway I-55 North. I went over there a couple of weeks ago for lunch.

Unfortunately I wasn't that impressed. The food was okay but definitely just mediocre. I ordered boneless wings and a cheeseburger and both where average.

The prices were a little high, presumably because it's a grill at a country club, which made it a little worse. The service was also a little below average.

I was very surprised but it happens sometimes.

If you're in the area and try them let me know if you have a different experience.

Eggs Up is a new breakfast restaurant on Goodman Road just east of Pleasant Hill Road in Olive Branch. I went there a couple of weeks ago for the first time and really enjoyed it. I don't normally want breakfast food so I don't order it very often. I ordered pancakes with sausage and eggs.

I went back a couple of weeks later and got a ham sandwich and it was good also.

I definitely recommend trying them out.

Dog and Bone is a British pub in Memphis on Madison just west of Cooper Street. I believe this is the only British pub in Memphis and one of the owners is British so many of the recipes are authentic, at least according to the waiter. I went there one night last week for the first time and it was great. I was so impressed I went back the next night with a friend.

The first night I ordered Shepherd's Pie and the next night I ordered fish and chips with a sausage and cheese plate and my friend ordered bangers and mash. Everything both nights was fantastic and so was the service. The waiter was Dillon and he was great.

The prices aren't particularly cheap but they aren't overpriced at all and I highly recommend them.

Butler's is a small buffet in New Albany on North Glenfield Road a few blocks north of Highway 78. I went there this past weekend for dinner and it was really good.

They have several prices. The buffet by itself is one price then there are add ons for crab legs, either for one serving or for all you can eat. I didn't not get the crab legs. The basic buffet is about $33 which sound kind of pricey but it's not for what you get.

They had several types of fish, several types of shrimp, several types of oyster, and a couple of types of clams, and steak and barbecued ribs. Many so called seafood buffets that I have been to have seafood but a very limited selection. I was really impressed with Butler's.

They also had a few other items like macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, and some other home style food like that and everything I got was really good.

I highly recommend them and will definitely go back!

The Burning Bush, Olive Branch, MS

Burning Bush is a small soul food cafe in Olive Branch on Hacks Cross just a couple of blocks north of Highway 302. I went there a couple of weeks ago for lunch and I highly recommend them.

I ordered catfish with macaroni and cheese and it was all very good. The service was a little slow but not bad and the prices were a little higher than what I would call average but also not bad. It's a small privately owned restaurant so I don't mind paying a little more.

The service was also very good. It's worth nothing the only drinks they have are sweet tea, lemonade, and water.

Columbus, OH restaurants

At the beginning of July I went out of town to Columbus for a week long work conference. Since I don't live near Columbus I'm including all of the restaurants where I went here. I only got to go to a few because during the conference there was food provided some days. I did a little research before going and let me say, the few places I did get to go were great.

Donato's Pizza

Donato's has several locations but I went to the one that was near the downtown hotel where I stayed. I went there based on a suggestion by a friend and ordered the "Founder's Favorite" which my friend suggested. It's the original founder's family recipe with pepperoni, sausage, shaved ham, banana peppers, smoked Provolone, and Romano and it was great. The prices were reasonable. I think I spent around $25 for the pizza and a drink.

 

Highly recommended! 

 

 

Pat and Gracie's

Pat and Gracie's is a bar and grill/tavern with two locations. I went to the one on Graceland Boulevard because the one downtown was closed that day for remodel or something. The food was really good.

I ordered chicken Parmesan and an appetizer of cheese sticks and everything was great. The prices were about average for that type of restaurant and I would recommend them if you're in the area.

 

 

The Walrus

The Walrus is another bar and grill style restaurant and I don't remember how I wound up there but holy crap was it great!

I ordered two appetizers, lobster pierogies and chicken nachos and both were fantastic but the pierogies were exceptionally good. I had never had pierogies before but have wanted to try them for a long time and when I saw then on the menu I knew I had to get them.

The prices weren't cheap but after all, it was lobster. Also the service was excellent. The waiter was very friendly. I highly recommend this place!

 

Graeter's Ice Cream

Graeter's is an ice cream shop with numerous locations including several in Columbus. I went there based on a suggestion from a cousin and it was wonderful. There's nothing even remotely comparable near me. I got a scoop of peanut butter chocolate and a scoop of chocolate chip and also a chocolate bar to take home for later. They are a little pricey but not really any higher than Baskin Robbins and it's so much better! This is another place I highly recommend if you're near one!

 

 

Los Portales, Hayti, MO

Los Portales is a Mexican restaurant in Hayti, MO and I stopped there on the way to Columbus for lunch. It was standard Mexican fare but it was good. It wasn't anything spectacular but if you're passing by they are worth a stop. The prices were about average for a Mexican restaurant.
