Canale's Grocery is exactly that, a small independent grocery store at the corner of Raleigh Lagrange Road and Houston Hill Road southeast of Cordova. It's been there a long time and they are known for their ham apparently. I worked around the corner from there a few years and started going there a couple of times per week for lunch. They keep an ample supply of various ready-made sandwiches for take out and they are very popular. I think they also have breakfast but I've been over there early enough for that.

I had not been there in a few years but I was out that was a few days ago and stopped by and picked up three sandwiches to have at home. I got two ham sandwiches and one bologna and the total was right at $11 with tax so I assume the sandwiches are about $3.50 each, but they are piled high with ham, lettuce, cheese, lettuce, and mayo or mustard. You can't really tell in this picture but one sandwich is plenty for meal for most people.

It you're near them, it's a great quick stop if you like sandwiches.

Frank's Pub is exactly what it sounds like, a bar and grill on Harrah's Parkway in Robinsonville, just off Highway 6 right by the Tunica outlet mall that's right on Highway 61, about a mile or so north of the first turn for where the closest Tunica casinos are now.

I went there today (Monday) for lunch because I had heard it was really good and I was very pleased. I ordered a burger and fries and a side order of queso and chips even though there were several things on the menu that sounded good. The burger was cooked just like I asked and was really good, as were the seasoned fries and queso.

The total was right at $20 including and drink and tax and was reasonable for what I got. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area. It makes a great stop on the way to or from the casinos especially since the casinos don't have as much food available as they used to, especially later at night. Frank's is open until 1:00 AM according to their Facebook page.

They have pool tables and dart boards if you like those games.

Captain John's is a small barbecue restaurant in Collierville on Highway 72 just northwest of Highway 385. I was in Collierville today and stopped by there to try it. It looks like it's in an old Coleman's Barbecue building.

The food was really good. I got a barbecue plate and a small cheeseburger and both were very good. I ordered beans and onion rings as my side items. The beans were really good but the onion rings tasted a little odd to me. Otherwise it was great. My friend got the daily special which was catfish and it he said it was good.

My total was around $15 including a drink and tax which was pretty good considering what all I ordered. I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Rio Lindo is a Mexican restaurant in Helena, AR on Oakland Avenue a few blocks east Highway 49. I went there this past Monday for lunch. I was going to another place in Helena but found out they had gone out of business.

I ordered a chimichanga and to be honest, it was average. Not bad, just average. Rio Lindo has other locations, one being in Senatobia, MS and that one has been very good every time I've been there but I don't remember if I got the same thing and actually, I'm not sure they are all related, it just has the same name. They do have Diet Dr. Pepper which is a big plus for me.

My total for the entree, a large cheese dip, and drink was about $21.00, not bad for what all I got. Next time I'm in the area I may try something else.

Deeo's is a small regional chain with about three locations in the mid-south area. I only first heard about it a few days ago and went there for lunch today to try it out. The location in Southaven is on Goodman Road just east of Malco in the same parking lot as the Starbucks. It's a small restaurant with only a couple of tables and while I was there eating several people came in to pick up to-go orders.

I ordered spicy garlic Cajun shrimp and a side order of garlic cheese sticks because I didn't realize the entree came with fries. The shrimp entree included potatoes, an ear of corn, and a deviled egg. Everything was really good and the service was fantastic.

It was pricey because it was seafood but not overpriced. My total was around $25 including a drink and tax but I took more than half of the entree and fries home and will have enough for another entire meal.

I definitely recommend it and will be back soon.

Cocina Mexicana is a Mexican restaurant with two locations in the Memphis area. I went to the one in Bartlett for dinner yesterday, located on Highway U.S. 70 just west of Memphis-Arlington Road, just east of Ellendale Electric.

I ordered something called Pollo Cocino which was chicken, shrimp, and chorizo with cheese sauce, lettuce, pico, sour cream, and guacamole, and of course, as usual, an order of queso. The waiter was a little vague about how big the large queso was so I had plenty to take home. My friend ordered a tamale and a something that was basically the same as my entree, just on a potato.

Everything was really good but the entree was especially good. All together my total including a drink and tax was about $24 but it was a lot of food and like I said, I had plenty to take home.

There is another location closer to me on Millbranch Road near I-240 and I plan on trying that one soon.

I definitely recommend this place!

Chipotle is a chain restaurant and I don't usually review chains but they are new to Southaven so I thought I'd mention them. The are located at the corner of Airways Road and Goodman Road right in the heart of city near Krystal.

We ordered from them a few nights ago at work and went and picked up. The food was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but pretty good and the prices seemed reasonable for what I got.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla with a side of black beans, sour cream, and corn salsa. I also ordered a small queso with chips. The quesadilla looks a little small but it was pretty thick and had plenty of meat. The queso was a little bland but not bad. My total was just over $15 so the prices are about the same as other similar restaurants.

I would definitely go back but it's not on my list of first choices. Next time I'll try something different and maybe see if they have a different type of queso.

For the money, I'd probably recommend Salsarita's on Getwell. The queso it better and it's a few dollars cheaper for a similar meal.

Karzon Car Care, Southaven, MS

Karzon is an independent car repair shop in Southaven on Main Street, a little west of Millbranch Road just past Dale's restaurant. I found them a couple of years ago and have had a number of repairs done there.

They are reasonably fast, have decent prices, have always been honest with me, and have always given me a fair deal. In the last couple of years I've had most of my car repairs done there and highly recommend them.

I don't know if I can say much more than that but if you need a repair they are worth checking out.
