Shakerag Bar and Grill, Millington, TN

Shakerag is a bar and grill in Millington at the corner of Rankin Branch Road and West Union Road. It's kind of out there so if you're not familiar with it use your GPS! I have had it on my list for a while but haven't been out that way recently. A few nights ago I was playing a gig in the area and afterward I ran over there to eat dinner.

I highly recommend it! I got a burger and fries but it was also taco night and I got one "cowboy" taco just to try it out. Everything was really good and the service was great. Randomly, the sour cream for the taco was really good. They weren't very busy because I got there not long before they were about to close.

My total was around $20 including a drink and tax. Everything was great and Sarah the bartender was very friendly. I saw a friend of mine who works there also, someone I hadn't seen in a while.

I definitely recommend them!

Guadalajara Grill is a local Mexican restaurant with several location in the North Mississippi area. The location in Walls is at the corner or Highway 301 and 302, next to the gas station. I met a friend there for lunch a little over a week ago. I had been there once several years ago but had forgotten about it because it also used to be a home cooking place called Magnolia Diner and I had been there several times.

The food was really good and the prices were reasonable. I ordered one of the lunch dishes, a chicken quesadilla and a chicken enchilada with rice and beans. I also ordered a queso but forgot to mention I didn't want the large. My total before tip was about $21 or $22 which was reasonable for what I got.

I don't remember what my friend ordered but it was something similar. I definitely recommend it if you're in the area. I also want to go the other other two locations just to compare.

Ubee's is a sports themed bar and grill on South Highland Street in the rear of the strip mall that is just south of the Fox 13 building and Mynders Avenue. I met a friend there for lunch last week after another place nearby was closed. They are also themed after the University of Memphis and I was told they take UofM credits or something.

I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, and a sausage and cheese plate. The cheese for the cheese plate was fried cheese balls, a little different than most places. The food was good and the service was great. I will definitely be back again!

The prices were pretty reasonable for what I got. For the appetizer, the entree, and a drink, including tax the total was about $24 which wasn't bad for what all I got. I think my friend got a bacon cheeseburger and he said his was good too.

It's also worth noting that the restaurant and parking lot are both posted with "no guns" signs if that affects your travels. I assume some of most of the other businesses in that strip are posted as well.

Barksdale's is a home cooking and breakfast restaurant on Cooper Street right at the corner of Courtland Place.I went there last week for lunch when I was in the area.

They have been around for many years. I remember going there back in the 90s with my father while running a business errand.

The food was really good and they have great prices. The daily lunch special was $10 which included a choice of a meat and three vegetables. I ordered country fried steak, mashed potatoes, potato salad, and black-eyed peas. Everything tasted really good and the portions were fairly big. To be fair, the country fried steak was more like Salisbury steak instead of country fried, but it was good regardless.

I have heard they have great breakfast too but as many of you know, I'm not all that big on breakfast foods. I still may go back over there soon and try it. I definitely recommend giving them a try.

Italia Pizza Cafe is an Italian restaurant in Southaven on Goodman Road right at the northeast corner of Stonegate Boulevard. I went there Friday 3/17 for a late lunch. I had been there before but it had been a number of years and back then it was called Lonnie Tant's Italian. I don't know if it's the same owners now or not. It seemed larger inside that I remember.

I ordered a slice of pizza and an order of lasagna with garlic knots. Everything was really good. The crust on the pizza was perfectly baked. Just a small detail I happened to notice. It's noteworthy that the waitress said they normally don't have individual slices after about 2 PM but I got lucky and they had one left.

The total including tip was only a total of about $21 for everything I got which was really good for the amount of food. The food was really good also so I will definitely be back!
