SideStreet Burgers, Olive Branch, MS

SideStreet Bugers

MAP

SideStreet is a small burger joint on Highway 178 (Old 78) in Olive Branch just north of Goodman Road. I had been there before 2 or 3 years ago but I wasn't all that impressed. I don't remember what I got. I met a friend there this past Saturday night on his suggestion and this time it was really good.

This time I ordered something called the "That's my bacon jam" and it was really good. It was a burger with pimento cheese and house made bacon jam. I'm not really sure what that is but it was really good. I got a side order of garlic wedges which were also very good.

With a drink and tax the total was a little over $13 and well worth the price. They don't have indoor seating right now but Saturday night was nice and my friend and out sat outside on the patio. They also said we could go next door to the Ale House and sit there if we wanted to.

Like I said, this time it was really good and I will definitely be back.

Little Italy, Bartlett, TN

Little Italy

MAP

Little Italy is a small casual Italian cafe with several locations. I went to the one in Bartlett last night which is on U.S. Highway 70 just east Appling Road, right next to Stewart Brother's Hardware

I ordered chicken Parmesan and it was fantastic! It was some of the best I've had. It came with a side salad which was very good also.

My friend got a meat lovers pizza which was only $10 but he added a couple of extra ingredients to it. He said it was very good also.

My meal was about $17 including a drink and tax and it was plenty of food so for the price I was very happy. The staff was very friendly and the owner came out and spoke to us before we left and gave us some coupons.

I definitely will be back soon.

Sweet Pea's Southern Cookin, Bartlett, TN

Sweet Pea's

MAP

Sweet Pea's is home cooking style restaurant in the Bartlett Towne Square right near the corner of Sycamore View Road and Stage Road near the Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop. I went there last week on suggestion of a friend was really enjoyed.

I ordered fried catfish with a side salad and macaroni and cheese and was really impressed. There were a couple of other things on the menu that sounded good so I hope to get back there soon to try them. My friend ordered baked catfish and said it was really good as well.

The prices were pretty good. Including a drink and tax the total was a little under $20 before tip.

Wilson Cafe, Wilson, AR

Wilson Cafe

MAP

Wilson Cafe is an upscale cafe right in downtown Wilson, AR at the corner of Main Street/Highway 61 and North Jefferson Avenue. I don't remember how I heard about them but I was off today with nothing to do and decided to give them a try.

I really didn't know what to expect and it was a little more fancy that I anticipated. This is not a negative at all, I just wasn't expecting it. The ambiance is nice and quiet and the food and service was fantastic!

Everything on the menu sounded fantastic but the daily special was blackened grouper over rice and sauteed vegetables which sounded wonderful so I tried that. I also order the "deviled egg of the day" which was beef pastrami, a side salad, and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Every bite from beginning to end was fantastic. As it's an somewhat upscale restaurant the prices aren't cheap but for what I got it wasn't bad at all. The total before tip was just over $50.

I don't normally use cliche terms but this is a hidden gem. It's some of the best food I've had and for the price it's really a bargain. I highly recommend them. It's about an hour or so from the Memphis area but definitely worth the drive!

Brooksie's Barn, Jackson, TN

Brooksie's Barn

MAP

Brookie's is a buffet in Jackson, TN in a, yep, you guessed it, a barn. I heard about it from a friend a year or more ago but had not had a chance to go until Saturday two weeks ago when I had to be in Jackson on business. The are located on Oil Well Road east of Pleasant Plains Road, behind Love and Truth Church.

The food was really good and they had good selection of food, but not too many choices. I personally don't really like buffets and I particularly don't care for buffets that have dozens and dozens of choices. Brooksie's has just the right amount.

I tried frog legs for the first time and I was impressed. I will say, I didn't like the ribs that much but everything else was very good, including the regular barbecue. The prices are reasonable and about the same as other buffets. My total was about $19 including a drink before tip.

It's definitely worth it if you're in the area.

Egg King Cafe, Memphis, TN

Egg King

MAP

Egg King is a small cafe on Elvis Presley Boulevard just a couple of blocks north of Shelby Drive. I had heard of it but didn't know where it was. Last Sunday I left home to go to church but after I got up on the interstate I decided to go back home because the roads were getting worse by the minute because of the snow. I wound up on Elvis Presley because of the turn I had to make to come back and happened to see the restaurant.

I'm not much on breakfast food usually so I ordered a cheeseburger and it was really good. They were pretty busy and it took a while to get my order but everyone was friendly. The total was just over $12 including a drink and tax. The fries were pretty good but next time I may try regular fries instead of seasoned.

I have heard really good things about their breakfast so one day when I'm in the mood for breakfast food I'll trek back over there and try it.

It's definitely worth trying if you're in the area.

Los Comales, Memphis, TN

Los Comales

MAP

Los Comales is a local Mexican restaurant with a couple of locations. I went to the one on Perkins Road which about a block south of American Way on the east side of Perkins. The food was pretty good but not as good as what I've had at other places.

I ordered the daily special, Pollo Fundidos which is chicken breast over vegetables. I don't have any complaints, but the vegetables didn't have a lot of flavor. I had to been to this location before years ago when I worked over that way and everything I got back then was good and my friend that met me said his chimichanga was really good. That said, this isn't really a negative review and I will be back!

Prices are about average. I spent just over $16 with a drink and a large queso to split between two people.
