Rosie's Cantina, Florence, AL

Rosie's

MAP

Rosie's a typical looking Mexican restaurant in Florence on Court Street at the corner of East Tuscaloosa Street. The food however was not typical. It was some of the best I've had.

I ordered the Pollo Loco which is grilled chicken over rice with queso and it was fantastic. We also ordered a side of queso and guacamole. My cousin ordered a vegetarian burrito and she said it was really good.

I don't remember how much it was but it was about average, but the food was not! I highly recommend this place if you're in the area. I believe they have another location near Huntsville also.

Hagy's Catfish Hotel, Shiloh, TN

Hagy's

MAP

Hagy's is a seafood restaurant in Shiloh near the Shiloh battlefield, off of Highway 22 a little south of Highway 64 and Crump, TN. I went there a few days ago while on vacation. It's local favorite.

I ordered a catfish plate which was two pieces of fish, a potato, and a salad. Everything was very good. I don't know how much it was because someone else paid but prices seemed to be about average for a seafood place.

I will definitely go back if I'm in the area!

The Outpost, Savannah, TN

The Outpost

MAP

The Outpost is a general store and restaurant on Tennessee Highway 128 in Savannah, TN just north of Highway 57 and the Tennessee River. I went there yesterday while on vacation for lunch.

I ordered a club sandwich with potato salad and both were very good. My cousin got a vegetarian pizza and said it was very good. We walked around afterward and I bought some soap in the general store because they had some with cute musical names like I Walk the Lime, A Bar Named Sue, I've Got Friends Aloe Places, and a tube of lip balm called The Devil Mint Down to Georgia.

My food was around $20 with a drink and tax and I will definitely go back if I'm in the area.

Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant, Franklin, TN

Puckett's

MAP

Puckett's is a small store with a restaurant in downtown Franklin on Fourth Avenue near Main Street. I went there for lunch today while out of town on vacation.

I ordered the Puckett's Nachos and my cousin ordered a vegetarian burger. She said her burger was very good and my nachos were great. My cousin wanted to get a dessert so we went with what the waitress suggestion, which she called a sundae and said that it had been featured on some show (I don't remember which) and had really high ratings. It was a brownie with a scoop of ice cream and a piece of bacon.

Because it had bacon my cousin didn't eat it but I took a few bites of it. It was okay but nothing great. All the other food was really good though and I would definitely go back when I'm in the area. There were several other things on the menu that sounded good.

We split the bill and my total about was right at $20 with a drink and tax before tip.

Also worth noting, they are right across the street from a free downtown parking garage, or at least I never saw anything about having to pay and never saw a pay station.

Bonus! We originally were going to a place called Ruby Sunshine that a friend had suggested but got there right after they closed at 3:00 PM. Before we knew it was closed we were looking for a parking spot and as I drove around the back, I saw this at a business.

Mac and Charlie's Soda Shoppe, Senatobia, MS

Mac and Charlie's

MAP

Mac and Charlie's is a small, cozy soda shop on Front Street basically at the corner of Main and Front in Senatobia right across from the police department. I went there today after taking care of a personal errand nearby.

The service was great and everyone was friendly. That said, the food wasn't anything impressive. I ordered some mint chocolate chip ice cream and a cheeseburger and fries with a drink. There was nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't anything spectacular. The prices seemed fairly reasonable for what all I got, especially considering that a couple of scoops of ice cream at many places is $6 or more. My total for everything before a tip was right at $20.

I would definitely go back again so understand I'm not saying it was bad, just a little underwhelming. Let me know if you try them and your experience is better!

Penny's Pantry, Senatobia, MS

Penny's Pantry

MAP

Penny's Pantry is a small, cozy sandwich shop in Senatobia on Front Street, basically at the corner of College and Center. I had been trying to make it there for a couple of weeks but kept missing their open hours. I made it there yesterday while I was in the area on business and was very impressed.

I ordered a tuna salad sandwich with potato salad and both were very good. The total with two canned drinks and tax was around $10 or $11 I think. I didn't really pay that much attention and forgot to keep my receipt but the prices were very good, the food was great, and the service was great.

I actually may be going back there today since I have to be nearby for business again and I may also try a soda shop that's near it.

I highly recommend this place!

The Taco Shop, Oxford, MS

The Taco Shop

MAP

The Taco Shop is a small Mexican restaurant in Oxford on University Avenue just west of Highway 7 in the same parking lot as Oby's. I went there this past Monday based on a recommendation from a nurse at my doctor's office.

I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a couple of tacos (one chicken, one beef) and it was great! I also ordered some queso and it was really good but to be honest, the chips were a little hard, almost like they were stale but not really stale. Otherwise it was fantastic. Normally I put sour cream on quesadillas but it didn't come with any and it was great without it. It's a "real" Mexican restaurant. They didn't bring any silverware and I noticed most of the other customers were Hispanic and none of them used silverware either.

The prices were really good. Tacos are $2 each and my total including a drink and tax was about $19 which was really good considering how much food I got.

I will definitely be back and I highly recommend it!
