Bridges Kwik Way, Winona, MS

Bridges Kwik Way

MAP

Bridges is a small gas station with a restaurant in Winona on Highway 51 a few blocks south of Highway 82. I was in Winona this past Tuesday on my way to Jackson to visit cousins and I stopped here to have lunch with another cousin that lives nearby. He suggested it and it was great! I got a burger and fries but the have a number of other things on the menu including sandwiches and plate lunches.

The prices are pretty good. I think my total was around $10 for a large burger, fries, and a drink. If you're in the area it's worth a stop!

La Perla Tapatía, Collierville, TN

La Perla Tapatia - Facebook page

La Perla Tapatia - Regular website but it's in Spanish

MAP

La Perla is a small Mexican restaurant in Collierville on Poplar Avenue just east of Houston Levee Road and the Landers Ford car dealership. I went there this past Sunday. I don't remember where I heard about it but I had heard it was really good, and it was.

I ordered the super chimichanga (I think that's what it was called) which is a chimichanga with beef, chicken, and shrimp and it was fantastic! When the bill came it was a little more than I expected but the entree was huge. The total was almost $21 but that included the entree, a small cheese dip, a drink, and tax.

It's in a small strip mall and there's isn't a lot of parking but I got lucky and a space opened up right up front as I was pulling in the parking lot. I highly recommend it if you're out that way. I will be back but unfortunately I don't make it to Collierville very often.

Bell Buckle Cafe, Bell Buckle, TN

Bell Buckle Cafe

MAP

Bell Buckle Cafe is a quaint little cafe in the middle a cute downtown business district in Bell Buckle, TN. It's on their Main Street right by the railroad tracks. I had heard about this place and have been wanting to try it for months. I was up near it a few months ago before the pandemic and literally couldn't find a parking spot, and at that time I was in a little bit of a rush.

I got there today and found a parking spot and went in for early dinner. I wish I had not already eaten lunch because I wasn't that hungry but what I got was great. I ordered chicken and dumplings with a side of beans and macaroni and cheese. Everything was really good and the prices were reasonable. The entree was $10 and I got water so my total was around $11.00 before tip. The service was very good and everyone was very friendly.

There were several other shops including a general store I wanted to visit but it was getting late in the afternoon and I wanted to get started home before it got dark and before it rained.

I will definitely be back when I can make it up that way again!

Burger Up, Franklin, TN

Burger Up

MAP

Burger Up is a regional chain with three locations in Nashville and the surrounding area. I was up that way for lunch today and stopped by the location in Franklin which is on Cool Springs Boulevard just west of I-65.

I'll be honest, it was okay but not that great and a little expensive, although to be fair, it's not fast food. It's a full service restaurant, so it's not really that bad considering, and the service was really good. I ordered the jalapeno burger and it came with a side of fries. It was plenty large enough it just didn't have all that much flavor.

The waitress did suggest something that was on the daily special, an elk burger but I decided to go with the Jalapeno instead. It wasn't bad, just not as good as I was expecting considering what I had heard about them. The total including a drink and tax was about $19. Next time I'm in area I'll give them another try and try a different burger to see what else they have.

If you're in the area give them a try and let me know what you think. A friend of mine said the one is Nashville is really good.

Soulsville Kitchen, Memphis, TN

Soulsville

MAP

Soulsville Kitchen is a relatively new restaurant in Memphis at the corner of East McLemore and Mississippi Boulevard. Apparently they don't have a website yet. I haven't been there but I ordered from DoorDash last week and had it delivered to my house. I was very pleased and they definitely gave a large portion! I don't remember exactly how much it was but it was around $20 because I had a $20 DoorDash coupon.

I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, an order of beef nachos, and a canned drink. Everything was really good and I will be ordering from them again or going there.

Homer Skelton Ford, Olive Branch, MS

Homer Skelton, 6950 Hanna Cove, Olive Branch, MS 38654.

I'm not putting a link to their web page for what I think are obvious reasons.

Near the beginning of this year, 2020 I bought a car from Homer Skelton Ford in Olive Branch. Everything was fine during the purchase. I test drove the car but mentioned to the salesman that the HVAC display, the display that shows you the air conditioner settings, was out which was a known common problem on C5 Corvettes.

He assured me it wasn't a problem since the dealer had an "IOU" program which allowed them to sell a car with a written guarantee to fix any agreed upon issue. I completed the sale and of course kept a copy of the IOU. I was referred to the off-site repair shop that handles all of their non-Ford related repairs.

After about two months of waiting for the part to come in, I was told it had finally arrived and I could go by the shop and have it replaced, which I did. I waited about an hour for the mechanic, Gus Ehrett to replace the display after which when he brought the car back to me, it was still completely not working. I had a feeling that he hadn't actually done anything but I couldn't prove it. Again, I was assured there was no problem since the part had a warranty so he would order a replacement and call me when it came in. After several more months of being put off by Gus as well as several different managers at the dealer, being told the part hadn't come in, a part that is readily available, I finally went to the dealer about two weeks ago to see if I could get the problem resolved.

First, I sent an email to the dealer requesting help and was referred to and set up with an appointment for a lady named Susan. After I arrived at the dealer I was informed that Susan was in charge of internet sales and had nothing to do with customer complaints or repairs.

After about 10 or 15 minutes of waiting, a guy came out (I don't remember his name) and said he would check into it and see what he could find out. After about 10 minutes he came back out and asked me a few questions then disappeared to the back again for a while. When he came back out this time he asked if I new how much the repair cost and I replied that I did because I had done it to another Corvette I used to own, but that wasn't really my problem because I had a written guarantee that the dealer would repair it for me.

He then informed me that there was no record of any part ever having been ordered and that they "had a check written for $200." I asked him what he meant and he said that they would give me $200 to forget the written guarantee and do the repair myself.

At this point, I was so angry I agreed just to be done with it which is probably all they wanted in the first place. He disappeared again for about another 20 minutes to get this check that had supposedly already been written and when he came back out I informed him that I was agreeing because I was just tired of messing with it but I would never spend any more money at the dealer, and he clearly just didn't care.

Yeah, many car dealers are sleazy, but I didn't expect them to outright lie to me and to keep jerking me around for almost 7 months. I've dealt with plenty of car dealers in my life, I've owned a bunch of cars, but I've never dealt with one that just outright lied to me like this.

I also realize many people will say they had a great experience at Homer Skelton. Just be warned. Apparently they are fine taking your money, they just don't care about you after that.

Red Fish Asian Bistro, Olive Branch, MS

Red Fish Bistro

MAP

Red Fish is an Asian restaurant in Olive Branch on Goodman Road a little east of Davidson Road in the same parking lot as Corky's. I went there a few days ago based on suggestion from a friend and it was pretty good. It reminded me a little of Kublai Khan in Southaven but I don't know if it's owned by the same company. The menu looked similar.

I don't remember the name of what I got but it's one of the dinner combos with about 15 or 16 pieces of "chef's choice" sushi and a soup and salad. I don't remember the exact price but it was around $22 or $23 with a drink and tax which is about average for what I got.

It was really good and I will be back when I'm in the area.
